Science & Startups Raises 8 Million Euros for a New Round of Funding in the Berlin Startup Scholarship Program
Startup Support Service at Berlin University Alliance is launching a new call for proposals titled “Science & Startups for Democratic Resilience” Approximately 8 million euros are available to support teams developing solutions for democratic resilience, social stability, and sustainable development. The funds come from the Berlin Senate Department for Economic Affairs, Energy and Public Enterprises and the European Social Fund.

Berlin University Alliance Secures Continued Funding in Excellence Strategy – A First for a University Consortium
As Germany’s first University Consortium of Excellence, the Berlin University Alliance (BUA) is maintaining its outstanding position in the German research landscape under the federal and state governments’ Excellence Strategy. The Excellence Commission – consisting of the Committee of Experts and the federal and state ministers responsible for science and research – has for the second time confirmed the strategic strength of Berlin as a center for science and innovation together with its alliance partners Freie Universität Berlin, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, Technische Universität Berlin, and Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin.

Science & Startups among Europe's leading startup hubs
FT Ranking 2026: 12th place in Europe – a significant leap forward Science & Startups, the joint start-up center of the Berlin University Alliance partners, has achieved top rankings in the latest “Europe's Leading Start-up Hubs 2026” ranking by the Financial Times, Statista, and Sifted, an FT-supported media offering for the start-up community: 12th place in Europe (previous year: 19th place) and 6th place in track record – the proven success rate of the start-ups supported – among 180 European start-up hubs evaluated. In Germany, Science & Startups also ranks 2nd among university start-up hubs.

Berlin Science Survey is launching its next large-scale survey and providing strategic impetus for science management and policy What conditions promote good research—and where do motivation, quality, and transfer come under pressure? Berlin Science Survey (BSS) is launching its next round with a new large-scale survey. The survey is being conducted by the Robert K. Merton Center for Science Studies (RMZ) at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin and is a key tool used by Berlin University Alliance (BUA) to examine cultural change in Berlin's research community.

Berlin University Alliance launches calls for proposals for international research collaboration with partners in São Paulo and Chicago
In September 2025, the Berlin University Alliance and the Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado de São Paulo (FAPESP) signed a memorandum of understanding . The aim of the agreement with the research funding foundation of Brazil's most populous state, São Paulo, is to specifically expand and deepen research cooperation between Brazil and Berlin. Now, the Berlin University Alliance and FAPESP are announcing their first funding line for international research cooperation. Researchers from the BUA can apply until March 15. The Berlin University Alliance is also intensifying its network of strategic partnerships with leading universities in North America: Together with the University of Chicago (Illinois) and Northwestern University in Evanston (Illinois) and Chicago, the Berlin University Alliance is creating new opportunities for innovative research collaborations with a call for proposals. The collaboration builds on a call for proposals issued by the University of Chicago in the summer of 2025 and serves to prepare for larger joint research projects.
