New leadership at Technische Universität Berlin: President Fatma Deniz to join Board of Directors of Berlin University Alliance

Prof. Dr. Fatma Deniz is taking over as president of Technische Universität Berlin (TU Berlin) and will simultaneously join the Board of Directors, the highest governing body of Berlin University Alliance. Deniz brings with her many years of experience in digitalization, the transfer of excellent research, and open science.

With a clear focus on cutting-edge research, innovative teaching, interdisciplinary collaboration, sustainable development, and digital transformation, Deniz and her team of vice presidents intend to lead Technische Universität Berlin in the future. The team includes Prof. Dr.-Ing. Jens-Uwe Repke as Vice President for Research and Science Transfer, Prof. Dr. Timo Hartmann as Vice President for Education, Prof. Eike Roswag-Klinge as Vice President for Sustainability and Campus Development, Prof. Dr. Nancy Wünderlich as Vice President for Digital Transformation, and Lars Oeverdieck as Vice President for Administration.

Fatma Deniz has been a member of the German Council for Sustainable Development since January 2026. In her previous role as Vice President for Digitalization and Sustainability at Technische Universität Berlin (April 2024–March 2026), Deniz shaped key developments: She led the university’s digital modernization and established sustainable research data infrastructures. Within the Excellence Alliance, she drove the “Sharing Resources” initiative and the joint strategy for a high-performance Data & AI Center. As a member of the Board of Directors of Berlin University Alliance and President of Technische Universität Berlin, Deniz intends to consistently continue this path toward integrated infrastructure, internationally visible cutting-edge research, and a strong voice for Berlin in Europe.

As a researcher, Deniz also conducted research and taught as head of Cognitive Computing in Biological and Artificial Systems division at Technische Universität Berlin, where she completed her habilitation in 2022. Deniz earned her Ph.D. at TU Berlin and the Bernstein Center for Computational Neuroscience Berlin and gained international research experience in the U.S., including at the Helen Wills Neuroscience Institute and the Berkeley Institute for Data Science at the University of California, Berkeley.
