This project, inspired by decolonial theory, adopts a critical lens to the study of German Colonial Law by integrating oral histories and memory of German Colonialism. We will contextualise legal documentation through both general cultural memories and oral testimonies of Namibian communities. This approach challenges the presumption of neutrality of legal documentation as a space of epistemological conflict, with an initial focus on Labour and Family Law.  The project is committed to ethical engagement with these sources, with the primary aim of creating a reflexive method for reading German Colonial Law through the lenses of archival critique and memory.  The X-Tutorial is suited for anyone with an interest in the German colonial period (German South-West Africa), diverse  epistemologies and practice-forward source analysis (students of history, philosophy, anthropology, sociology, area studies, etc.). Prior knowledge and relevant language skills are appreciated but not required.
