Grief and Society ! (II)

Anna Lehmann, Lea Leusing, Freie Universität Berlin, Philosophie (WE 1)

Inhalte/ Contents

The X-Tutorial explores the relationship between grief and society, inquiring about the (transformative) potential of grief.   Having examined how neoliberal structures shape grief in the first semester, we now explore how grief shapes societies. Taking grief as a fundamentally social experience, we ask: Can grief ignite solidarity and social change? For example, what role does (eco)grief play in climate action? When does grief paralyse us, and when does it make us act?   The research is interdisciplinary and encourages experimentation with creative (e.g. audio-visual) research methods. We aim to create space for subjectivity and to dehierarchise research practices. The project welcomes BA and MA students from medicine, psychology, philosophy, philology, anthropology, social and political sciences, and creative disciplines such as visual arts. No prior participation is required. Results will be presented in an exhibition.
