We will look at Community Supported Agriculture (CSA), known in Germany as Solidarische Landwirtschaft (SoLaWi), and investigate if and how such rural-urban food networks strengthen connections between places, people and resources through new forms of place-based value chains: how consumers' and producers' behaviours change; how the activities of the network affect socio-economic and spatial development indicators; what we can learn from this practice about regional development. The geographic focus on the Berlin-Brandenburg region will enable us to examine the role of the network in broader socio-ecological transformations through the concepts and practices of alternative economies. We will start looking at the results of the group which took part in the SoSe. We will then (re)define the research direction, implement a data collection, take part in field visits, and organise a workshop with network’s members and experts, to collect qualitative and quantitative data, which will be analysed and integrated into a story map. Students in urban planning, regional development, agrarian economics, rural studies, geography, agricultural science, GIS and cartography, sociology and related subjects are welcome!
