Inhalte/ Contents
Understanding how colonialism continues to shape the world is a central intellectual challenge today. Although empires have formally disappeared, their legacies still structure global relations. To assess how these colonial legacies persist, it is essential to consider their intricate entanglement with technology. The research group examines how technologies sustain dynamics of extraction, dependency, and uneven development, and asks how these technological formations might be decolonized. The seminar is organized in four parts. First, participants establish a shared theoretical framework through classical and contemporary critiques of technology. Second, the seminar engages with current approaches to extractivism, dependency, and development. Third, students organize their own research initiatives around theoretical debates or applied case studies. Finally, the seminar concludes with a public symposium featuring invited experts and student presentations. The seminar welcomes students from the humanities, social sciences, and natural and applied sciences. Prior knowledge is helpful but not required.
