Research Software Day + Week 2026 Berlin

03.06.2026

On 3 June, 2026, BUA CORe and RSEde organize a day dedicated to Research Software. For the surrounding week (01-05 June 2026), research organizations and RS initiatives in Berlin are invited to promote their RS events via a joint campaign. Interested? Please get in touch and join the info meeting in February.

The Berlin RSE chapter (beRSErc) and the Berlin University Alliance (BUA) Center for Open and Responsible Research organize an event dedicated to research software.

It consists of a central RS Day (Wednesday 03.06.2026) and a surrounding RS week (01.-05.06.2026) for events distributed across Berlin and beyond. The event aims at promoting RS awareness, networking and training. The format is inspired by Love Data Week and Open Access Week. The BUA acts as a platform for bringing people and research organizations together and to promote RS events. Interested organizations and stakeholders are invited to contribute their events during the week and participate in the central RS day with talks, workshops and networking.

The goal is to organize a first Berlin RS Day and embedd that into a week of events around research software to offer opportunities for

  • hands-on coding training for researchers,
  • discussing overarching RS topics like training institutionalisation and governance as well as
  • giving a space and visibility to existing RS initiatives to present themselves and network for potential joint activities.

Additionally, the event shall serve as a prototype and be openly documented. In this way, potential future editions of RS days and weeks in Berlin and elsewhere can draw on the resources and adapt them to their needs.
