Prof. Dr. Meera Mehta from the Universtiy of Oxford receives the Clara Immerwahr Award 2024

Prof. Dr. Meera Mehta from the University of Oxford receives the Clara Immerwahr Award 2024 for her outstanding achievements in catalysis research.  Prof. Mehta  was born and raised in downtown Toronto (Canada). She completed her Honours BSc from McMaster University and earned her PhD from the University of Toronto under the mentorship of Prof. Douglas Stephan.

Lecture Course on Neutrino Physics between Oxford and Berlin

A lecture course “Neutrino Physics and Astrophysics” has been co-organized by the physics departments/institutes of the University of Oxford (Prof. Armin Reichold) and the Humboldt University Berlin (Priv.-Doz. Dr. Walter Winter, also scientist at DESY), financially supported by the Oxford Berlin Research Partnership. Altogether ten students from HU Berlin, three from FU and TU Berlin (to which the programme was also open) and nine from Oxford University were admitted, all at the Master’s or PhD levels.

Students from Berlin and Oxford retracing the German Peasants' War

Twenty-five history students from Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin and the University of Oxford went on an excursion to Mühlhausen in Thuringia to follow in the footsteps of the Peasants' War. The third-year students from Oxford are specializing in the topic with Prof. Dr. Lyndal Roper and joined forces with students from Humboldt-Universität for the excursion.

Oxford Byzantine historian Ida Toth has won a prestigious Einstein BUA/Oxford Visiting Fellowship. Together with Jutta Eming from the Freie Universität Berlin she will look at one of the most widely distributed pre-modern collections of stories to offer unique insights into the human past, cultural diversity, and intercultural communication.

Panel discussion on 'Erosion of Democracy? Academic freedom and right-wing politics in Europe' at this year's Berlin Science Week

What impact does the rise of right-wing politics have on the state of academic freedom and democracy in Europe? What factors contributed to the rise of right-wing movements and far-right ideologies? What strategies could help curb the spread of right-wing populist ideologies and strengthen democratic principles? These questions were discussed by political scientist Tarik Abou-Chadi from the University of Oxford and Einstein BUA Oxford Visiting Fellow and social scientist Kriszta Kovács from the Science Center Berlin, Cluster of Excellence SCRIPTS and ELTE University with Matthias Koch from the ZEIT-Stiftung Brucerius at the Museum für Naturkunde as part of Berlin Science Week 2023.

International workshop as part of the OXBER-funded project “Context-driven Infection Control Interventions" (CoDe-ICI)

As part of the "Context-driven Infection Control Interventions" project funded by the Oxford Berlin Research Cooperation to promote infection prevention interventions in low- and middle-income countries (LNME), a network meeting of the participating hospitals took place on October 19 and 20, 2023 at the WHO Hub for Pandemic and Epidemic Intelligence in Berlin.

Andrew Sharott to be new Einstein BUA/Oxford Visiting Fellow.

Sharott is an associate professor at the MRC Brain Network Dynamics Unit at the University of Oxford and conducts research on brain disorders and treatments for Parkinson's disease, among other topics. The BUA/Oxford Visiting Fellows programme aims to integrate researchers from the University of Oxford into the Berlin scientific community on a long-term basis to further strengthen the scientific cooperation between the two cities. It is one of various funding lines of the Einstein Foundation Berlin.
