The joint project “CARDS - Collaboratively Advancing Research Data Support,” funded by the Berlin University Alliance, focuses on the sustainable development and expansion of tools, services, and competence development offerings in the field of research data management (RDM) for researchers and multipliers, as well as the implementation of best practices in data management by Berlin-based research groups. In this project, the partners Freie Universität Berlin, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, Technische Universität Berlin, and Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin are developing measures to specifically optimize RDM expertise at their institutions and improve the management of research data in order to advance the quality and reusability of research data in Berlin as a center of science.
As part of our FDM@BUA talk series, we cordially invite Berlin-based scientists and RDM-staff to present their own research data management practices in everyday research: showcase how you handle research data, report on best practices, and share challenges and lessons learned with colleagues from other Berlin-based research groups. The series offers an excellent opportunity to present your everyday RDM work to an interested peer community, exchange ideas with other researchers, and gain new perspectives. We also offer the opportunity to publish your slides in our collection on the Zenodo repository with the assignment of a DOI.
How can you contribute?
- A short presentation (approx. 15 minutes) of your project and your dataset(s)
- An overview of FDM in everyday life and possible challenges (approx. 20 minutes)
- Openness to questions and discussions (approx. 30 minutes)
When? Flexible appointment scheduling
Where? Online
What? We are looking for contributions that address various challenges of research data management and their solutions. Practical reports are very welcome. Examples include
- FAIR data: How do you make your data findable and accessible? How have you documented your data to make it reusable?
- Dealing with specific data types (e.g., personal data, object data, audiovisual data, etc.) in your project
- Quality assurance of research data in your project
- Reuse of research data in your project
- Legal issues in the creation and (re)use of research data, e.g., aspects of authorship and ownership
- What challenges have you encountered in managing your data? Have you found a solution?
- Data ethics in practice
If you are interested in sharing insights into your personal RDM or RDM practices in your research group, please send a short description of your presentation to a.trifonova[at]fu-berlin.de by 15.04.2026.
You can find an overview of current and past FDM@BUA events in our event calendar.
We look forward to your contributions and an exciting exchange at FDM@BUA!
