Workshop of the BCGE science community: Strengthening International Research Collaboration–Putting Academic Freedom into Practice

12.02.2026

The rise of war, conflict, authoritarianism, and right-wing populism has led to unprecedented restrictions on academic freedom worldwide, including in democratic contexts such as the United States, Europe, and Germany. These developments pose significant challenges to research and international collaboration, making it necessary to take action to safeguard academic freedom both globally and locally.

Concerns regarding academic freedom in international research collaborations affect all disciplines. In this workshop, the BCGE brings together projects and researchers from the Berlin University Alliance that have been addressing the topic of academic freedom in various ways and have closely collaborated with the BCGE over the past years.

Target group: Researchers of the Berlin University Alliance. The workshop is by invitation only; however, if you are interested in participating, please contact the BCGE: bcge@berlin-university-alliance.de
