Panel discussion on reforms to academic career paths and personnel structures to kick off the new ProFiL Programme round

With its successful ProFiL Programme, the Berlin University Alliance is increasing the proportion of women in professorial positions in Germany and internationally. To kick off the new program round, the president of Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, Prof. Dr. Julia von Blumenthal, will discuss the topic “Reform of Career Paths and Staffing Structures in Academia: Scopes for Action between Excellence Requirements and Budget Cuts.” The discussion on July 8, 2025, in the Senate Hall of Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, Unter den Linden 6, will be in German, to be simultaneously translated into English.

Angela Dziedzom Akorsu is the 2025 Audre Lorde Visiting Professor at the Berlin University Alliance.

The German Research Foundation (DFG) today announced the funding decisions for the upcoming phase of the Excellence Strategy. Berlin did well in this national competition: Five clusters of excellence will receive funding from the German federal and state governments over a period of seven years starting in 2026.

Berlin University Alliance and Joachim Herz Foundation test new model for impact-oriented research transfer The Berlin University Alliance (BUA) and the Joachim Herz Foundation are strengthening the transfer of cutting-edge research into practice by founding a new company called innovate! lab gGmbH. The methodology lab is to test a particularly promising transfer approach using chemistry research results as an example. At the same time, the success factors associated with this approach will be examined from a methodological standpoint as part of accompanying scientific research and continuously adapted in practice. The goal is to gain insight into how to effectively support and promote complex innovation processes.
