News from Nov 24, 2025

The Berlin University Alliance is delighted to welcome Prof. Eva Cheng as the next Audre Lorde Visiting Professor. Through this appointment, the Alliance strengthens international exchange, academic excellence, and social responsibility in the fields of diversity and gender equality.

The visiting professorship will be hosted by the ZIFG at TU Berlin, which collaborates closely with the Diversity and Gender Equality Network (DiGENet) of the BUA. Together, they aim to highlight perspectives from the Global South and postcolonial approaches, creating new spaces for dialogue, research, and teaching.

Prof. Eva Cheng is Associate Professor at the School of Professional Practice and Leadership at UTS. She combines outstanding expertise in engineering and multimedia signal processing with a strong commitment to intersectional gender, diversity, and equity research in STEM. She develops innovative STEAM-based teaching concepts and inclusive programs such as Women in Engineering and IT, and collaborates with Engineers Without Borders. Her work integrates Indigenous knowledge and transdisciplinary partnerships to expand access to technical professions for underrepresented groups.

During her stay in Berlin, Prof. Cheng, together with Prof. Dr. Petra Lucht, will offer teaching sessions, workshops, and public lectures on diversity and gender equality in science and technology. She will also further strengthen international collaboration between Berlin’s research institutions and global partners of the BUA. Details on upcoming events will be announced in due course.

The Audre Lorde Visiting Professorship brings outstanding international scholars to Berlin who contribute innovative perspectives on diversity and gender equality. Named after the American poet, activist, and professor Audre Lorde (1934–1992), whose intersectional analyses of racism, sexism, and social justice continue to shape feminist and anti-racist movements worldwide, the professorship embodies the Berlin University Alliance’s commitment to embedding diversity and gender equality as cross-cutting themes in research and teaching – through new impulses, expanded international networks, and innovative approaches within Berlin’s higher education landscape.
