Module 2: Good Science

Gute Wissenschaft

Unser E-Learning-Modul „Good Research Practice for Doctoral Researchers“ erreichen Sie hier.

Kernveranstaltung: (In)Credible Research: Konferenz

Retrospective:

2024: Creative and Credible!

Under the motto "Creative and Credible!", this year's event was all about creativity in research and science. We explored creativity and its credibility in science and try to answer questions like:

  • What role does creativity play in science and knowledge production?
  • How are creativity and innovation linked?
  • How can we make our creative science credible and rigorous?
  • Is creativity in science encouraged or discouraged?
  • What are some tools which enrich science with creativity?

2023: Integrity of Science

This exchange of ideas covered a number of highly fascinating and relevant topics for the early career researchers to which it is tailored.

This included the examination of four overarching subjects:

  • Conflicts of interest
  • Artificial intelligence as it relates to diversity and inclusion in science
  • Fundamentals of methodology and how to apply them in your research
  • Work life balance for young scientists

In addition to the various digital sessions, we also had an entertaining and interactive in-person workshop focusing on work life balance. This was followed by a social event where participants and organizers got to better know each other.

2022: SustainAbility of Science

Under the motto "SustainAbility of Science", numerous lectures, discussions and interactive workshops took place.

The conference addressed three distinct aspects of sustainability, each of which has recently seen broad interest in the academic community and general media:

  • Ecological sustainability
  • Economic sustainability
  • Mental and physical sustainability

2021: Science and Communication

Over the years of 2020 and 2021, it has become ever more evident how important communication of scientific evidence is. We have seen how effective communication can be challenging in the time of infodemic. What is the role of ECRs in science communication, and how can we be most effective? How can we strike a balance between timeliness and scientific integrity? How can we ensure transparency? The conference aimed to:

  • Spotlight the current state of science communication
  • Promote learning about science communication tools that ECRs can implement in their daily work
  • Educate and empower ECRs to improve the quality and robustness of scientific work throughout the research process
  • Provide a forum for exchange about challenges ECRs face in our work
  • Facilitate environment for cross-disciplinary collaboration

2020: Credibility, Integrity and Reproducibility of Research

In 2020, the conference “(In)credible Research - for Credibility, Integrity and Reproducibility of Research” took place as an online conference for the very first time. Approximately 150 participants, from a broad range of disciplines including medicine, physics, law, neuroscience, economics, and psychology, attended the conference.

According to the evaluation from ECR 2020, (In)credible Research conference was highly recommended to young researchers as a great opportunity to think outside the box and shine light on inherent problems of the scientific community; as well as a great platform to transfer knowledge on good scientific practice, to raise awareness of the credibility crisis in research and to discuss challenges.
