The ProFiL Programme

The ProFiL Programme is run over a period of 12 months for 66 participants from the cooperating Berlin universities, the Wissenschaftszentrum Berlin für Sozialforschung (WZB) and for international English-speaking researchers based at Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin.

The target groups are scholars with a habilitation, habilitation candidates, junior professors, leaders of junior research groups and postdocs pursuing a professorship.

Methodically, the programme combines mentoring, seminars and training sessions on issues of specific interest to academics with establishing a peer network and strategic networking.

Mentoring

  • Workshops and one-to-one consultations to prepare the mentoring and supervision of the mentoring process

  • Six compact seminars

Networking

  • ProFiL network with events on a regular basis
  • Discussion rounds and "networking dinner" with guests from higher education, politics and other relevant areas

The programme has a multidisciplinary orientation. However, some seminar subjects are offered separately for different groups of disciplines to focus on their specifics.

Each round of the ProFiL Programme is launched by a kick-off event and ends with a closing event.

The concept of the ProFiL Programme was tested in a three-year pilot phase that was externally evaluated. Since 2007, the evaluation is carried out internally in order to ensure a continuous quality assurance.

A further external evaluation of the ProFiL Programme is carried out since 2023.
