Gain research experience at an early stage of studies

The Berlin University Alliance has published a call for proposals for student research groups and research tutorials in the winter semester 2021/22

News from Apr 23, 2021

The Berlin University Alliance (BUA) has the aim of strengthening the connection between top-level research and teaching. To this end, the Student Research Opportunities Programx (StuROPx) was set up to enable students from BUA's partner institutions to work largely independently on their own research questions. Thus, students are involved in highly topical research questions at an early stage of their studies. In the current summer semester, the BUA is supporting eight so-called X-Tutorials and 16 X-Student Research Groups for the first time. For the upcoming winter semester 2021/22, BUA again invites junior researchers and students of the partner institutions of the Berlin Excellence Alliance to apply for funding. The deadline for applications is June 1.

X-Student Research Groups are research teams consisting of junior researchers and students. Doctoral candidates, Postdocs, and junior professors can bring their own research into teaching and work with students on sub-questions of their current research. Students can thus gain research experience at an early stage of their studies. Junior researchers receive a teaching assignment for an X-Student Research Group and may apply for research-related in-kind or travel funding.

X-Tutorials are research tutorials initiated and facilitated by students. Two tutors conduct research with other students on a research topic that interests them. Students from all disciplines and from all four BUA partner institutions are eligible to apply for X-Tutorials as a co-teaching team. All tutors receive a contract as student assistants and can apply for research-related in-kind or travel funds.
