New Employees for the Berlin University Alliance
News from Jan 29, 2021
With the formation of the Berlin University Alliance, the four Alliance partners – Freie Universität Berlin, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, Technische Universität Berlin, and Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin – want to develop the research hub of Berlin into an integrated research environment. In order to bring the five objectives and three cross-cutting themes to life, new staff members will support the new overarching work structure and joint projects.
Dr. Katja Guske has been program manager for “committees and reporting” at the Berlin University Alliance office since January 2021. Previously, she worked as a program manager to the president and vice president for teaching and studies at the University of Potsdam. The Berlin University Alliance administrative office is responsible for the overall project management of the alliance. It ensures the implementation of the planned projects with regard to the alliance's goals and, in particular, accompanies the alliance's committees.
Dr. Gerrit Rößler, previously managing director of the Present Futures Forum at Technische Universität Berlin, assumed the leadership of the Knowledge Exchange Office (Objective 2: Fostering Knowledge Exchange) in January 2021. Previously, he earned a PhD in literature and cultural studies at the University of Virginia and gained experience in science communication and participation as program coordinator of the German Center for Research and Innovation (Deutsches Wissenschafts- und Innovationshaus (DWIH)) in New York and as director of the German Academic International Network (GAIN). His colleague Wiebke Hahn also joined the team in January as program manager for research forums. She previously worked as a program manager for research and society in the Presidential Office of Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin as well as at Wissenschaft im Dialog and in various international science communication projects.
BUA's partner institutions aim to disseminate research ideas and results to the outside world, as well as to bring external perspectives and experiences back into research. With the Knowledge Exchange Office, the alliance promotes the establishment of new formats to reinforce the multidirectional process. For example, in the so-called “research forums”, this multidirectional knowledge exchange is to be reinforced and solutions for pressing questions of our time are to be discussed and developed.
Elisabeth Nickler took over the position of program manager for “Recruitment” in Objective 4: Promoting Talent in January 2021. Previously, she worked at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities of the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin as director of division for academic affairs. The Promoting Talent division supports the Berlin University Alliance in its goal of developing Berlin into a dynamic center for national and international academic careers. In the long term, a common, integrated career and recruitment space will be created to identify, attract, support, and retain outstanding researchers at all career stages.
