As part of Berlin Science Week, the Einstein Foundation Berlin, the Berlin Center for Global Engagement and the Center for Open and Responsible Research, both part of the Berlin University Alliance, organize an open dialogue on the topic: 

Can Science Remain Open in an Authoritarian World? 

on the afternoon of November 6, 2026, as part of the Berlin Science Week at Haus der Kulturen der Welt in Berlin. 

Together with the audience, the dialogue seeks to explore:

• What is at stake when research organisations have to close their doors
• What are the diverse pressures on science, and
• How the transformative benefits of open science can still be safe-guarded.

The discussion will be moderated by Dr. Sakine Weikert, Head of the Centre for International Academic Cooperation (KIWi) at the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). Speakers are Dr. Kamran Naim, Head of Open Science at CERN and Prof. Andrea Fleschenberg dos Ramos Pinéu, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin and involved in BCGE's key projects such as co²libri and Hidden Research.
