Research Software Day and Week 2026 Berlin & Brandenburg
Research software is becoming increasingly important for the quality of research. To discuss current challenges—such as AI, legal issues, and software publication—and to strengthen networks, BUA, de-RSE and the excellence cluster Matters of Activity organized an action day on June 3 2026. Next year's edition is already in preparation!
News from Jun 22, 2026
The Research Software Day 2026 Berlin and Brandenburg (June 3) brought attention to issues surrounding research software and its growing importance for open and responsible science. Around 80 participants gathered for the event—researchers at various stages of their careers who code software as part of their research or plan to do so in the future, established research software engineers and research data managers, as well as stakeholders from science management who are increasingly coming into contact with research software. In training workshops and networking sessions, they discussed current topics, presented their local initiatives and networks, and learned about current approaches. The action day for the Berlin-Brandenburg region was the local centerpiece of Research Software Week 2026 (June 1–5), during which additional in-person and online training sessions were offered by institutions from all over Germany as well as other countries.
