About the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities

The Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities (formerly the Prussian Academy of Sciences), which has a turbulent history under various names, was re-established in 1992 by an intergovernmental agreement between the states of Berlin and Brandenburg, continuing the tradition of the Prussian Academy of Sciences. It serves to promote the sciences, provides advice on social and political matters, fosters dialogue between science and society, and supports institutional cooperation between non-university research bodies and higher education institutions in Berlin and Brandenburg. Today, with its approximately 400 members – outstanding representatives of their respective disciplines – the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities is a scientific association that transcends disciplinary and regional boundaries.
