Entertaining Insights into Berlin Research

The Second Season of the YouTube Channel “Wissen aus Berlin (Knowledge from Berlin)” Organized by the Berlin University Alliance Relates Exciting Stories about Research Projects

News from May 24, 2022

The second season of “Wissen aus Berlin” starts with 23 videos. The film channel of the Fostering Knowledge Exchange objective of the Berlin University Alliance (BUA) provides entertaining insights into Berlin research in clips of short, exciting videos. Researchers from the four partner institutions present new findings and informative stories from their projects, which are funded by the BUA, or which take place in the Berlin Clusters of Excellence. From now on, every Tuesday you can immerse yourself in a different world of research.

“Wissen aus Berlin” is about topics with a Berlin focus, as well as global challenges: How can chemistry help us combat climate change? How do robots become social beings? How do we shape the city of tomorrow? How reliable are scientific results? Projects on creative forms of science communication will also be presented. For example, the audience can learn about quantum physics in an escape room or how the important question of the future of water is negotiated in the theater. Personal stories from researchers provide insights into their motivation and approach to research questions.

“We support researchers in developing new formats for sharing their research results with the public,” says Prof. Dr. med. Marc Dewey, member of the steering committee of the Fostering Knowledge Exchange objective and Heisenberg Professor of Radiology at Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin. “The varied stories from the different department of the four partner institutions reflect the diversity of Berlin's research and form an excellent basis for further knowledge exchange with society.”

In the second season, projects will be presented that are funded within the framework of the Special Call: Pandemic Research, the Grand Challenge Initiative on Social Cohesion, and the Experimental Science Communication Laboratories of the BUA. Scientists from Berlin's Clusters of Excellence Contestations of the Liberal Script, “Unifying Systems in Catalysis”, MATH+, and Science of Intelligence will also provide an insight into their work.

The Berlin University Alliance

The Berlin University Alliance is a consortium consisting of three major Berlin universities – Freie Universität Berlin, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, Technische Universität Berlin – and Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin, established to shape research and education in Berlin. The four partners joined forces to further develop Berlin as a research hub with international drawing power. Together the partners explore major societal challenges, increase public outreach, promote the training of junior researchers, address issues of quality and standards in research, and share resources in the areas of research infrastructure, teaching, diversity, equal opportunities, and internationalization. The Berlin University Alliance is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and the state of Berlin under the Excellence Strategy of the Federal Government and the Länder.
