On 1 October 2025, researchers from the Berlin University Alliance (BUA) and the University of Oxford met in Oxford for a one-day Energy Workshop dedicated to advancing sustainable energy solutions. The meeting brought together experts in photovoltaics, catalysis, batteries, bioenergy, and materials chemistry to exchange ideas and explore new directions for joint research.

Participants discussed challenges ranging from renewable material development and scalable solar technologies to waste recycling, life-cycle analysis, and the social dimensions of energy transitions. The day also featured visits to Oxford’s Thin Film Production Cluster Facility and Steier Catalysis Lab, providing valuable insight into state-of-the-art experimental platforms.

The workshop concluded with a clear commitment to strengthen cooperation through upcoming initiatives, including Horizon Europe projects. Key leads will continue developing collaborative research on CRM-free batteries, photocatalysis, and early-career researcher exchanges.

This event reflected a shared ambition to “dream big” — to unite scientific excellence across disciplines and countries in pursuit of innovative, sustainable, and scalable energy solutions for the future.
