Funding Opportunities
BCGE Calls
The BCGE promotes collaborative research projects between BUA researchers and their partners in the Global South. The center does not define the Global South as a strictly delimited geographical area. Rather, the Global South includes countries that, for various reasons, occupy a marginalized position in global scientific production. The term thus allows existing, rapidly changing hierarchies in knowledge production to be recognized and helps to overcome them.
As a recurring format, the BCGE Flexible Travel Funds (BCGE guests) are announced once a year to promote short-term mobility. A list of previous and currently funded BCGE guests can be found here. The BCGE is funding four signature projects in the period 2022-25. In the Inaugural Call des BCGE, 17 projects were funded in the period 2020-2021.
Supporting Research Collaborations
The BCGE supports joint projects with partners in the Global South at the BUA in various ways, for example, through visibility measures, information sharing, letters of support, and more. Please contact the BCGE with information about your project.
Third-Party Funding Services
The international offices of the four BUA institutions provide internal funding for smaller projects aimed at initiating cooperation with international partners. Some of these funds are explicitly intended for projects with partners from the Global South. Current calls for applications are announced under the "News" section on this page. Below you will find links to general information about the internal funding schemes:
