The teams of researchers and students had to consist of at least five participants from two different disciplines of the partner institutions of the Berlin University Alliance (Freie Universität Berlin, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, Technische Universität Berlin, Charité). Within a team, participtants from at least two different disciplines of the partner institutions of the Berlin University Alliance had to be represented.

The teams could consist either of researchers only or students only or of participants of both status groups.
