Status Conference Social Cohesion 2022
Internal conference of the Grand Challenge Social Cohesion
On May 19 and 20, 2022, the Social Cohesion Status Conference took place at the Neue Mälzerei in Berlin-Friedrichshain. The collaborative meeting of the Grand Challenge Initiative Social Cohesion marks the funding mid-term of the Exploration Projects Social Cohesion.
The Grand Challenge Initiative Social Cohesion is the first of three major funding lines of the Berlin University Alliance to explore complex, global issues of high social relevance. Its Exploration Projects started in October 2020 during the challenging pandemic period and will continue until 2023/2024.
The conference was opened by Prof. Dr. Peter A. Frensch as speaker of the BUA, Prof. Dr. Gesine Schwan as president of the Humboldt-Viadrina Governance Platform and Prof. Dr. Naika Foroutan as member of the expert board Social Cohesion and brought together numerous actors and interim results of the research projects. The conference program bundled a large number of exciting and highly relevant contributions on the fundamental understanding of social cohesion as well as on central facets of social cohesion. More than 90 participants from the projects and their partners from various non-university research institutions in Berlin also discussed what impulses BUA research on social cohesion could contribute to further scientific debate.
After the long period of video conferencing, the exchange, discussions and networking was possible in presence, to the delight of many participants, and thus offered a real conference feeling.
The conference was organized by Objective 1 "Focusing on Grand Challenges" and Objective 2 "Fostering Knowledge Exchange".
