Research Data: Developments, Services and Conflicts

Jan 26, 2022 | 02:00 PM - 03:30 PM

Panel Discussion

As a joint event of the objectives Advancing Research Quality and Value and Sharing Resources of the Berlin University Alliance (BUA) the topic of research data will be the focus of a conference to be held in the framework of a colloquium on January 26, 2022. The aim is to include different perspectives and to ask what the BUA as an alliance can do in the future to ensure that more researchers (can) make their data available and how the quality of this data can be assured. The panel discussion is open to all interested parties. Please send registrations by email to: nele.albrecht@berlin-university-alliance.de

In addition to free access to publications, the availability and transparency of research data is increasingly the focus of open science activities, and especially in the context of the topic of research quality. This is clearly demonstrated by national and international efforts as well as efforts made in Berlin to provide the necessary infrastructures and steer numerous initiatives and projects for the standardization of data as well as its quality and protection in research data management.

In this panel discussion, the participants want to discuss research data and its provision, indexing, quality assurance, and subsequent use in the practice of the BUA‘s partner institutions: What services and sustainable structures around research data management are needed within the BUA? Given the various "data communities" and their needs, how should subject-specific strategies for research data management be designed? And how can potential BUA strategies be embedded in local, national and international infrastructure initiatives (Berlin Open Science Platform, NFDI, EOSC) and processes, or with which complementary measures could the BUA support open data initiatives? What are the biggest challenges in research data management from the perspective of researchers, research data trainers, data curators, and administrative program managers, and what conflicts arise most frequently?

The following participants will report from their experience on these questions and topics:

  • Dr. Jonas Müller-Laackman, Freie Universität Berlin
  • Dr. Carolin Odebrecht, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin
  • Dr. Sonja Schimmler, Weizenbaum Institute/Fraunhofer Fokus
  • Dr. Evgeny Bobrov, Berlin Institute of Health

The panel discussion will be moderated by Prof. Dr. Manfred Hauswirth, Technische Universität Berlin.
