Finding Your Place: Overcoming Impostor Feelings as a Woman in Research: Many female researchers experience the feeling that their academic success is due more to luck or favorable circumstances than to their own abilities. They may live with the persistent fear of being “exposed” as an imposter, despite objective indicators of competence and achievement. Such negative self-attributions can significantly affect everyday work, well-being, and long-term career planning during the doctoral phase and beyond. Within the highly competitive and often implicit structures of academia, these experiences can be reinforced by gendered expectations, stereotypes, and a lack of visible role models. Yet, they are rarely addressed openly.
