The Berlin University Alliance (BUA) has been receiving funding as part of the Excellence Strategy of the Federal Government and States since November 1, 2019. It's been an eventful year to say the least.

The numerous calls for research projects highlight the broad spectrum of the excellence alliance: from social cohesion and promotion of young researchers to communication laboratories and projects on the psychosocial effects of the lockdown during the corona pandemic. Not to mention international research projects with the Global South, strategic research partnerships with the University of Oxford, the University of Melbourne, and the National University of Singapore. Further funding programs are already in the pipeline.

Just prior to the BUA’s birthday, legislation came into effect on the establishment of the Berlin University Alliance’s cooperation platform as a corporation under public law. The platform aims to facilitate cooperation between researchers and administrations of the partner institutions.

Communicating research in the different areas and various formats is an important aspect of the Berlin University Alliance. To this end, a podcast series on the topic of Global Health has been created in collaboration with the rbb (Rundfunk Berlin-Brandenburg – national broadcaster for the German states of Berlin and Brandenburg). As part of a video series created by the Deutsche Klima-Konsortium (DKK) (German Climate Consortium), a contribution on climate and mobility has been submitted: “Corona schafft Platz fürs Fahrrad“ (Corona creates space for cycling)
