Claudia Göbel works on research quality, infrastructures of science as well as relationships between science(s) and public(s). In 2025, she completed her PhD on the topic of inclusion in science at the Institute of Sociology, University of Mainz. With a background in sociology of science, Science and Technology Studies (STS), higher education research, and organizational sociology, her research focuses include the digitalization of science, open science, participatory research, and science policy.

In her practice-oriented work, she develops training programs on research quality and more inclusive formats for collaboration between practitioners in science, administration, and civil society—preferably co-creatively. In this context, she has initiated and led various strategic initiatives, including an international advisory group on participatory research for the development of the UNESCO Recommendation on Open Science; the working group ‘Empowerment, Inclusiveness and Equity in Citizen Science and Community-Based Research’ (jointly hosted by the European Citizen Science Association and the Living Knowledge Network); and INSIST, the network for early-career researchers in STS in German-speaking countries.

Since October 2025, Claudia Göbel has been working as a scientific coordinator on research quality in Objective 3 of the Berlin University Alliance.
