Research assessment reform - A remarkable year in review

We cordially invite you to an end-of-year meeting at QUEST.

On July 20th, 2022, the European Commission and European Science and higher education associations published the final agreement for research assessment reform (CoARA). On October 21st, 2022, the BIH was one of the first research organizations in Germany to sign the agreement, alongside the DFG.

We would like to discuss recent international and local achievements in research assessment reform, and take a look into the future.

 

When: December 13th 5.30 pm until 7 pm, followed by snacks & drinks

Programme

 

5.30 – 5.45 pm                  Welcome and Introduction

Prof. Ulrich Dirnagl, Director QUEST Center, and Dr. Miriam Kip, Project Teams leader QUEST Center, will provide an overview of recent international and local initiatives and projects in the context of research assessment reform

5.45 – 6.05 pm                  Science needs Open Science and reform of Recognition and Rewards”

Prof. Dr. Frank Miedema, Professor of Open Science, Vice Rector for Research at Utrecht University, Chair of the Utrecht University Open Science Program and BUA Visiting Fellow at the QUEST Center, will give an online talk on the relevance of incentives and rewards for Open Science and Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI). He will further discuss the interconnection between Open Science, RRI and societal impact.

6.05 – 6.25 pm                 Tent. title: Perspectives from early career researchers on research assessment reform (tba)

Dr. Jess Rohmann, MDC and Charité, will speak on the role of early career researchers in research assessments and debates on excellence (tent.).

6.25 – 6.45 pm                 Decolonizing Health Research – What contribution can research make to health equity?

Frauke Heller, Global Health officer at medico international, Pharmacist and Master’s student at the International Health program at Charité, will share insights and experiences from the Global South. She will provide impulses on changing perspectives relating to the funding of important gaps in research and the inclusion and ethical recruitment of researchers from the Global South. She will also discuss criteria to evaluate research, including a possible paradigm shift related to patents/IP as a central goal of research.

6.45 - 7 pm                         Discussion
