Exploring Career Opportunities Beyond Academia
For many postdoctoral researchers, stepping out of the academic world is both an exciting and daunting prospect. While some eagerly explore opportunities in industry, science management, public service, or entrepreneurship, others may find it challenging to determine an entry point.
The Postdoc Career Fair, hosted by the Berlin University Alliance, provides guidance, concrete insights, and networking opportunities for postdocs considering career paths beyond academic research.

Last years’ events highlighted the growing demand for career orientation beyond academia. Postdocs engaged in panel discussions with experienced researchers, advisors, and recruiters, covering key topics such as industry entry paths, future skills, work-life balance, and career preferences.
With around 150 postdocs in attendance, the most sought-after sessions included discussions with HR professionals, direct exchanges with employers, and career coaching opportunities. During the lunchtime career marketplace, participants connected with various organizations, further education institutions, and companies, gaining deeper insights into job profiles and requirements.
