Insights into participatory and transdisciplinary research
Eleven project reports published in the TD-Lab Funding Program
From January to July 2025, the projects of the first funding period worked intensively with non-scientific actors. These included artists, patients, students, teachers, government employees, many different civil society actors, residents, and many more. Scientists from the four institutions of the Berlin University Alliance designed, organized, and conducted workshops, led excursions, recorded podcasts, built sculptures, and developed apps, thereby gaining insight into the inner heart of participatory and transdisciplinary research.
Their final reports have now been published. In the three- to four-page reports, the projects describe their initial situation, what they implemented specifically and why, and what they achieved. The diverse applicability of participatory and transdisciplinary research, from health research to climate change adaptation and teacher training, becomes clear. But they also show what good participatory and transdisciplinary research can look like. The project reports thus also serve as examples of good practice.
Once a year, the TD-Lab Funding Program supports up to 15 participatory or transdisciplinary research projects with up to €10,000 in material resources. In an accompanying program, participants are also supported in sharpening and achieving the scientific and social impacts associated with their projects.
Anyone interested can now view the final reports on the Berlin University Alliance website. They not only offer inspiration for future research, but also concrete examples of the successful application of transdisciplinary and participatory methods in practice.
