Speakers
Philip Howard is one of the most recognized experts on the interplay between artificial intelligence, social networks, and political manipulation. He studied economics at the London School of Economics and Political Science (UK) and obtained his PhD in the social sciences from Northwestern University (USA). He is the author of the award-winning book Lie Machines: How to Save Democracy from Troll Armies, Deceitful Robots, Junk News Operations, and Political Operatives. He was awarded the Democracy Prize by the National Democratic Institute, and Foreign Policy magazine named him a “Global Thinker” in recognition of his pioneering research on global misinformation trends
Melinda Crane analyzes German and European politics as chief political correspondent for Deutsche Welle TV and hosts the talk show “Quadriga”. Crane studied history and political science at Brown University (USA), law at Harvard University (USA) and holds a doctorate in political economy from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy. She has written for the New York Times Magazine and the Boston Globe, among others.

Prof. Elke Schäffner and Prof. Odette Wegwarth, both Charité – Universitätsmedizin, Berlin initiated this series to provide impetus in both science policy and social policy.
