This year's Droysen Lecture will once again take place in the Einstein Hall of the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities on 27 May at 6 pm s.t. The lecture, entitled "Geschichte(n) erzählen. The Peasants' War 1525" will be given by Lyndal Roper (Regius Professor of History, University of Oxford).

How do you write the story of a profound, traumatic event? How do you give meaning to an event that is absolutely overwhelming in its scale, scope and the sheer number of deaths - probably between 70,000 and 100,000 people? And how do you write this story when one side can read and write, but the leaders of the other side have all been executed or are illiterate? In her lecture, Lyndal Roper examines how people at the time wrote the history of the Peasants' War. Her findings raise the question for us: How do we write history today?
