What can science contribute to the major transformations of our time? The new magazine beyond, published by the Berlin University Alliance in cooperation with the Tagesspiegel, offers insights and perspectives.

The name says it all: beyond stands for research that transcends boundaries – across disciplines, institutions, and sectors. The magazine offers insights into the collaborative research conducted by the four BUA partner institutions: Freie Universität Berlin, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, Technische Universität Berlin, and Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin.

A key focus lies on the Grand Challenge Initiatives – interdisciplinary research projects that address pressing issues of our time. These include global health, social cohesion, climate and water under change, quantum technologies, and responsible innovation.

beyond also invites readers into THE OPEN LAB, showing how science can take place at the very heart of society. The focus is on dialogue, accessibility, and the question of how research can generate impact in collaboration with the city and its communities.
