Under the motto “Research for Society, Economy and the Environment,” the DKK brings together prestigious research institutions whose work contributes to identifying climate change and highlighting possible courses of action for prevention and adaptation.

The Berlin University Alliance is a partnership between Freie Universität Berlin, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, Technischer Universität Berlin and Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin. Driven by outstanding researchers from the different institutions, research on climate change and its effects has been an important focus in Berlin for many years.

“We see the Berlin University Alliance’s membership in the German Climate Consortium as an important building block for increasing the visibility of Berlin’s expertise and expanding the existing alliance between the researchers of the partner institutions and the partners in the German Climate Consortium. It is also of utmost importance that we present scientific discoveries beyond the academic framework and that we enter into an open exchange with politicians and societal figures,” said the current spokesperson of the Berlin University Alliance and president of Freie Universität Berlin, Prof. Dr. Günter M. Ziegler.

“As a scientific association based in the German capital, we are extremely pleased to welcome the collective expertise of Berlin climate researchers to the German Climate Consortium. The urgency and major challenges posed by climate change call for intensive and cross-disciplinary cooperation in research and scientific communication. Only then will we be able to offer credible solutions and guidelines for politicians and societal figures,” said the association’s CEO, Prof. Dr. Mojib Latif, at the member’s general assembly on Friday.
