Rita Süssmuth is ECDF Ambassador

Politician Süssmuth plans to accompany and support researchers in the Einstein Center Digital Future based at the Berlin universities and Charité

Politician Rita Süssmuth is the new Ambassador of the Einstein Center Digital Future (ECDF). A former President of the Bundestag, Professor Süssmuth was officially welcomed at the New Year’s reception of the interdisciplinary research project, organized in cooperation between Freie Universität, Humboldt-Universität, Technische Universität, Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin, and the Berlin University of the Arts. During her visit to the ECDF, Professor Rita Süssmuth was impressed by the wide range of research topics relating to digitalization. “Digital transformation is a major task for our society. The ECDF brings together engineers, doctors, and designers as well as urban developers and computer scientists who are facing this challenge together,” she says.

From 2006 to 2018 Rita Süssmuth was a member of the Kuratorium at Technische Universität Berlin. She was chair from 2010 to 2018. In this function she already followed the establishment of the ECDF with great interest. Before she began her political career, Rita Süssmuth was a professor of education at Universität Dortmund.

The Einstein Center Digital Future (ECDF) is an interdisciplinary project of Technische Universität Berlin, Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin, Freie Universität Berlin, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, and the Berlin University of the Arts. The ECDF is a center for research and support of digital structures in academia, industry, and society. It researchers are based at the four Berlin universities as well as at private companies and other organizations. The interdisciplinary project aims to create more links in the field of digitization in Berlin, try out new forms of cooperation, and concentrate on innovative interdisciplinary cutting-edge research. In September 2016 the Einstein Foundation Berlin approved funding for the ECDF after an elaborate review process.
