The Centre for Higher Education Development (CHE) evaluated subjects at Technische Universität as well as Freie Universität and Humboldt-Universität along with their joint medical school Charité.

In the most recent ranking of the CHE University Rankings, subjects taught at the three major Berlin universities were included in the best group. This includes medicine at Charité, the joint medical school of Freie Universität and Humboldt-Universität. In the CHE University Ranking, one third of the subjects are reassessed each year. This year the assessed subjects are: biology / life sciences, chemistry, geography, Earth sciences, computer science, mathematics, medicine, nursing science, pharmacy, physics, political and social sciences, sports / sports science, sports for teaching, and dentistry. The categories include such indicators as support during the initial phase of studies, equipment, publications per professor, or international orientation.
