An introduction to EEG and Event-Related Potentials

The Berlin University Alliance (BUA) offers an introductory course on electroencephalography (EEG) and event-related potentials (ERP). The course is open to all students and doctoral candidates of the Berlin University Alliance (including medical students) and it is free of charge. The course will be held in English. Lecturer: Michelle Wyrobnik, M.Sc.
Target Group: Master and medical students and doctoral candidates of the Berlin University Alliance who are interested in EEG and ERP research or are planning to conduct an EEG study for their thesis and require some background information or a refresher course.
Date: The course will take place on three consecutive days: 07.09., 08.09. and 09.09.2022.
Time: 9:30 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Content: This course consists of a theoretical part and a practical training. In the theoretical part, you will learn about the neural origins of the EEG and how a typical EEG experiment in neuroscience is designed. Further, we will discuss what event-related potentials (ERPs) are and how they are linked to mental processes. Finally, you will learn about the preprocessing steps of EEG data and get a brief overview about the statistical analyses of ERPs. The practical training will take place in small groups in the EEG laboratory of the Motor and Cognition Group in the Department of Neurology. Together, we will put on the EEG cap, prepare the electrodes, and make a short recording of the EEG signal.

The course is limited to 15 participants. Students must inquire themselves at their institutes (examination boards or examination offices) whether credit points can be awarded for this course.
