At a conference of the Selma Stern Center for Jewish Studies Berlin-Brandenburg from November 17 to 19, scholars will discuss how conflicts between different ethical and legal positions can be reconciled in multicultural and multi-religious societies. In addition to theoretical and historical lectures, possibilities for practical implementation will be presented. Topics include the Jewish theology of the rule of law, the transformation of Sharia law from an understanding based on laws to a value system, and the influence of the diaspora on the relationship between state and community.
