Three major Berlin universities and Charité rank in QS Subject Ranking in many disciplines among top 10 universities nationwide and top 50 worldwide

Freie Universität Berlin, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, and Technische Universität Berlin performed excellently in the 2019 QS World University Ranking by Subject. The three universities and Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin are represented in the international TOP50 in many disciplines. Freie Universität, Humboldt-Universität, and Technische Universität rank among the ten top German universities. In the worldwide ranking, different disciplines at the universities are evaluated individually according to subject groups. The most important indicators in the QS Subject Ranking are the survey of researchers with regard to the reputation of the subjects and the survey of employers with regard to graduates. Another important indicator is the number of citations by researchers. More than 1,200 institutions in 153 countries were evaluated and ranked.
Humboldt-Universität was particularly successful in the field of philosophy (12th worldwide) and placed first in Germany in the arts and humanities and 21st worldwide. In the social sciences, Humboldt-Universität placed 2nd in Germany and at rank 65 worldwide, and in the natural sciences at rank 6 in Germany and 68 worldwide.
Worldwide Freie Universität was ranked at place 19 in both archaeology and political science. Within Germany the university was ranked second in the arts and humanities and 24th worldwide and in the social sciences 3rd in Germany and 78th worldwide. In the natural sciences Freie Universität was ranked 10th in Germany and at place 115 worldwide.
Technische Universität got its best results in architecture, placing at rank 32 worldwide. In engineering and technology, the university placed 3rd in Germany and at rank 47 worldwide. In natural sciences Technische Universität ranked at 7 in Germany and 79 worldwide.
Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin is Germany’s highest ranked medical school and 33rd worldwide.
