Digitalization and Equality
Gala event on February 21 at the Einstein Center Digital Future: part of the Berlin university DiGiTal program, a cross-departmental project in support of women in research and women artists
News from Feb 12, 2019
A university program entitled “DiGiTal – Digitalization: Gestaltung and Transformation” aims to promote outstanding women scholars, scientists, and artists in the area of digitalization research. At the beginning of 2018, 13 research projects on digitalization were launched as part of the program. These projects are in receipt of a three-year grant. At the end of the first year, a gala event will take place at the Einstein Center Digital Future on February 21.
Under the motto “Digitalization and Equality,” a podium discussion will involve four Berlin academics, all women, who will talk about the role of digital technologies in reproduction and in helping to combat social inequality. The keynote speech of the event, entitled “Humankind in digital transformation, or the meaning of organized skepticism,” will be given by Dr. Claudia Müller-Birn, Professor of Human-Centered Computing at Freie Universität Berlin. Space is limited, and we ask you to register if you wish to attend, at: festveranstaltung@digital.tu-berlin.de.
The Berlin universities’ program “DiGiTal – Digitalization: Gestaltung and Transformation” is a joint project involving 13 Berlin higher education institutions. It is funded by the Berliner Programm zur Förderung der Chancengleichheit für Frauen in Forschung und Lehre (Berlin program for equality of opportunities for women in research and teaching). Its aim is to attract outstanding young women into academia and to support them on their path toward professorship.
Under the leadership of Technische Universität Berlin, several higher education institutions are involved in DiGiTal, including Freie Universität Berlin, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, and Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin. The universities’ program is governed by a cross-institutional advisory board and promoted by the conference of women’s representatives at Berlin institutions of higher education.
