In this course, we investigate the distributional implications of effective climate policy. We analyse household microdata from multiple countries and derive carbon footprints embedded in households’ consumption. Our results, which express the additional costs carried by consumers in case of carbon pricing, might help to alleviate unintended, i.e. unjust consequences of combatting climate change. Participants should ideally bring some basic knowledge in data analysis (using R, Stata, Python) and interest in empirical research as well as in climate policy.
